Most people prefer vertical insect screens for their aluminum frames at home, mainly for windows. Some also use them for balcony doors, but we will discuss that specifically later. Vertical insect screens are economical and easy to use when the right accessories are utilized and installed correctly. However, when the opposite happens, we will most likely face the most common insect screen accident.
The most common insect screen accident
In many cases, the insect screen suddenly disengages and rises at high speed. In many cases, uncontrolled ascent causes accidents (especially to small children). This happens because vertical insect screens do not have screen brakes. Brakes are responsible for the smooth return of the screen to the top, they raise the mesh in a controlled manner, and the possibility of an accident is eliminated. At Fenestral, we always install screen brakes for the safety of our customers to avoid the most common insect screen accident.
Are vertical insect screens suitable for balcony doors?

Vertical insect screens are mainly used for aluminum windows. For large aluminum frames, it is advisable to avoid them. That is, for kitchen doors and aluminum balcony doors, it is better to install plissé horizontal insect screens with a caterpillar track or horizontal screens with an even mesh. This is because vertical insect screens are not functional for large frames. If someone does not have the appropriate height, they will find it difficult to open the balcony door screen. Also, partial opening is not possible, and each opening or closing requires bending over.
For double-leaf aluminum balcony doors, the use of a vertical insect screen is even more difficult. For each opening or closing, both leaves must be opened. Due to their large width, a wide arm span is required to grasp both handles. This often causes damage to the screen due to difficulty of use and burdens the household budget.
Vertical insect screens for limited-use balcony doors

For balcony doors that are not frequently used and do not have a large width (room or second in the living room), vertical insect screens are suitable. When we want to leave the balcony door open for ventilation but do not frequently go in and out. Vertical insect screens have the advantage of lower cost compared to horizontal insect screens.
