Key Components of Aluminum Frames

Key Components of Aluminum Frames. Aluminum frames are one of the most widespread choices for modern buildings, thanks to their durability and flexibility. To understand their proper function, it is important to know the individual key components that make them up. Among the most important are the tracks of sliding architectural systems, the sashes, and the frame – casing in opening frames.

Tracks for Sliding Aluminum Frames

In sliding aluminum frames, the movement of the sashes relies on two tracks. These are special profiles installed at the top and bottom of the opening, allowing for smooth and secure rolling of the sliding sashes.

The bottom track bears the greatest weight, as the sashes move along it via rolling mechanisms. Its construction can include more than one channel to accommodate multiple sashes. On the other hand, the top track functions as support, keeping the sashes on the correct path. In modern sliding frames and tracks, inox guides are installed to prevent scratching and to remove debris.

The precision in manufacturing and the quality of materials directly affect the ease of use and the long-term performance of the frame.

Sashes of Opening Frames

The sashes constitute the movable part of opening frames and are responsible for opening and closing. They are made of aluminum profiles and feature glazing.

There are 3 different types of opening frame sashes:

  • Simply opening

  • Tilt-and-turn for ventilation

  • Combined (opening and tilt-and-turn)

Their performance largely depends on correct installation, sealing gaskets, and support mechanisms. A well-designed sash contributes to maintaining temperature and the sound insulation of the frame.

The casing is the fixed perimeter that is integrated into the wall and on which the entire frame rests. It is essentially the part that receives the sashes and ensures their proper function.

Its correct alignment during installation is very important, as even small deviations can affect its functionality. A casing that has been properly manufactured and installed contributes to the durability, performance, and proper operation of the frame, preventing air infiltration and the appearance of moisture.
