The “Renovate – Rent” program is entering its final stages and is expected to open in the coming period, probably in early June 2026, with the possibility of starting even earlier, towards the end of June. This is an initiative that aims to activate currently vacant residences, providing strong financial incentives for their upgrade.
How the Renovate – Rent program will be implemented

Implementation will occur in two stages:
First phase: concerns closed properties
Second phase: will include already rented residences, with an emphasis on low-income households
For closed properties, it is foreseen that owners will receive a subsidy for renovation and rental of the property within 6 months after the completion of works
Participation in the program comes with specific commitments:
- The lease must be long-term
- The owner is not allowed to easily terminate the contract
- In case of non-rental within the deadline, the subsidy may be requested back
Subsidy amount for the Rent Program 2026

Funding is one of the main advantages of the program:
- Coverage of up to 95% of renovation costs
- Basic amount up to 36,000 euros
- Additional support: +5,000 euros for each child
Thus, for example, a family with two children can receive a total subsidy of up to 46,000 euros.

For a property to be eligible, it must:
- be up to 120 sq.m.
- have been built before 1990
What works are covered?

The program funds a wide range of interventions, such as:
- upgrading electrical and plumbing installations
- renovation of kitchen and bathroom
- restoration of damage and general repairs
- installation of a solar water heater
- roof insulation works
- upgrading heating systems
- replacement of frames
The goal is for properties to be transformed into modern, safe, and functional residences.
Practical facilities
For closed properties, an advance payment is foreseen, so that works can start immediately. After completion, a lease agreement must be submitted
What does the Renovate – Rent Program 2026 aim for?

The basic philosophy of the measure is twofold: to increase the availability of housing in the market, to improve living conditions, especially for those facing financial difficulties, and to solve the housing problem plaguing our country
Overall, this is an intervention that combines high subsidies with specific obligations, attempting to provide a solution to both the problem of closed properties and the need for affordable housing.
