In many cases, there is a need to create a hole in double glazing or energy-efficient glass. A hole (opening – cutting double glazing) in double-glazed – energy-efficient glass (glazing) is required in many cases and for various uses. The most common reasons for creating these specific openings – holes in the glass of our home are the installation of pet flaps (pet doors), the passage of extractor fan pipes, as well as the installation of fans and all types of ventilation systems in bathrooms and kitchens. The creation of such an opening – hole in double-glazed units is an easy process. Let’s see in which cases it should be done and what we should avoid, in order to prevent cases of moisture between the double-glazed units or their breakage.
How to cut a double-glazed unit.

The cutting (hole in double glazing) of double-glazed units should always be done by professionals in the field. The opening – hole can be made in any shape we desire (circular, square, polygonal, triangular, etc.), provided it is at least 7 centimeters away from the corners of the glass unit – pane, to avoid breakage. If the double-glazed unit is large, it should be divided into smaller glass units with the help of special partitions – T-profiles. Division of double-glazed units should also be done if they vibrate, either from the use of fans or from the vibration caused by pet flaps. If division of the glass unit is not possible, it should be replaced with an aluminum panel.
Sealing – Insulation of a hole (opening) in double glazing or energy-efficient glass unit

Every opening – hole in double glazing – glass unit, should be insulated – sealed, to prevent moisture from entering between the double-glazed units and causing them to fog up. The sealing of each opening should be done with special spacers – battens, and its insulation should be done with hot melt adhesive or, preferably, with two-component adhesives (Butyl and polysulfide) for better performance. In this way, we seal the double-glazed – energy-efficient units and prevent the appearance of condensation between them.
Creating an opening (hole) in a double-glazed unit (energy-efficient) for installing a pet flap (pet door).

Before creating an opening (hole) in a double-glazed unit (energy-efficient) for the installation of a pet flap ( pet door ), we must first know the size of the flap. There are dozens of pet doors of various sizes on the market, and initially, we must choose which type best suits us and our pet. If the glass unit (aluminum frame) is large, it should be divided – separated with special partitions – T-profiles, because there is always the possibility that the glass unit may break due to the vibration created when our pet passes through. Division – separation of the glass unit or installation of an aluminum panel instead of a double-glazed unit should always be done in the case of very large glass units or if our pets are large.
Installation of a fan – ventilation system on a double-glazed unit

The installation of a fan – ventilation system on a double-glazed unit is done in exactly the same way as above. In this case, we must take into account the oscillations of the glass unit and the risk of breakage. In case of large oscillations – vibrations, we should divide the glass unit with T-profiles or install Triplex glass units.
Installation of a handle – knob on a double-glazed unit

When installing a handle – knob on a double-glazed unit, we must definitely use Triplex glass units to avoid breakages.
