How are super durable coatings certified?
Super durable coatings are certified according to the Qualicoat class 2 standard. Certification is carried out through the Florida test, which involves a natural exposure test of frame colors in Florida, United States, and with this, we check the coating’s resistance to solar radiation (shade and gloss retention). The tests are conducted under the subtropical weather conditions of Florida because one year of sunshine in Florida can be equivalent to several years of weather conditions elsewhere. The location in Florida has high-intensity sunlight, high annual UV radiation, high temperatures year-round, abundant rainfall, and very high humidity. Practically, painted aluminum profiles are placed and tested under very intense radiation in desert conditions for 12 months. This way, we measure the coating’s resistance to solar radiation in terms of retaining its shade and gloss over time.
The color test lasts for 12 months for class 1 and 36 months for class 2, and through this test, it is proven that super durable coatings have 3 times more durability compared to standard durability colors (e.g., RAL frame colors) (source NEOKEM).
What warranty is there for super durable coatings – super durable colors?
Super durable colors – super durable coatings are certified based on the Qualicoat class 2 standard, as mentioned above, and consequently, a warranty can be given for 12 months for class 1 and 36 months for class 2. Of course, super durable coatings last much longer, but the warranty of the respective paint shops (e.g., Europa) and the durability of the colors are directly related to the way each frame manufacturer constructs the aluminum frames.
Frames in coastal areas
A significant problem observed mainly in frames in coastal areas is filiform corrosion or oxidation of the frames. To address this problem, EUROPA uses Sea side class 2 certified coatings.
